Community Partnership
Camden Surgical Hospital recognises that through collaboration with the community, we can improve health outcomes and provide more positive experiences for our patients.
We understand that when a patient is admitted to hospital, it also impacts family members, carers and friends. It is our aim to interact with our patients and their loved ones in a personalised way, and to seek their feedback to improve the services we offer.
Camden is located on the traditional lands of the Gundungurra, Tharawal, and Dharug people, a region of rich Aboriginal heritage. If you are of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander origin, please let us know. This can help us to better plan your health care.
Camden's Colonial Heritage
Camden has a unique place in Australia's history and the town is home to many heritage-listed buildings reflecting its links with the early settlement of the colony.
With sensitivity to the towns history our architect’s guiding brief was to create a modern, sophisticated hospital building which also includes architectural elements from Camden’s colonial heritage.
A couple of prominent features are the brickwork on our hospital frontage, which matches St John’s Anglican Church (circa 1840) and modern exterior vertical panelling that resembles the traditional timber cladding on farm buildings at Belgenny Farm (circa 1806).
Creating a modern hospital building that complements and connects with the classical design of the early 1800’s has been a highlight for the Camden Surgical Hospital team.
Waste Reduction and Sustainability
Waste-reduction and sustainability principles are of key importance to the Camden Surgical Hospital team.
Our hospital building has been constructed with these principles as a core focus and we are committed on an ongoing basis, to the concept of ‘reducing and reusing’ wherever possible. A key focus will be on the following.
Waste
Reducing, treating, and safely disposing of our healthcare waste.
Paper Usage
A substantial reduction in paper usage with the implementation of electronic medical records.
Energy
Utilisation of energy efficiency lighting, equipment, and selecting energy-efficient options wherever practical.
Water
Reducing water consumption with the use of low-flow fixtures throughout the facility.
Supply Chain
Maintaining efficient transport logistics and adopting sustainability decisions with respect to the purchasing of medical supplies.
