Direct Access Endoscopy
Welcome to Camden Surgical Hospital’s Direct Access Endoscopy program.
Direct Access Endoscopy provides a streamlined process that allows suitable patients to be referred directly for colonoscopy and gastroscopy procedures at Camden Surgical Hospital.
The key benefits are reduced wait times, offering quick access to a procedure with our experienced Gastroenterologists and General Surgeons.
The Direct Access pathway streamlines gastroscopy and colonoscopy access for both insured and uninsured patients.
The steps of the process are:
- If your GP recommends a gastroscopy or colonoscopy, he or she will assess if our Direct Access service is appropriate for you. If it is suitable, your GP will complete our online Direct Access Referral Form.
- Our Direct Access Co-ordinator will then review the referral information and medical history provided by your GP.
- If your suitability for Direct Access is confirmed by our clinical team, you will be contacted to select a preferred date for your procedure. If for any reason, we conclude that Direct Access is not the best option for you, your GP will be contacted.
- In advance of your admission to hospital our staff will contact you and provide instructions about preparing for your procedure (e.g. bowel prep, dietary requirements, etc.)
